Exploring the Difference Between Golf Coaching and Golf Lessons

Traditionally, golf lessons or instruction is what we think of instead of coaching.  Golf lessons will normally improve your swing but does not necessarily equate to better scores or even better ball striking.   Often, a lesson is just a band aid but not the solution to better golf.  Golf coaching is working with you and your swing on every aspect of your game to help you score better and is more about developing new skills such as ball striking, pitching, chipping and putting. You will also learn about how to get the ball in the hole through course strategy and mental techniques.  We will work on your swing to aid in developing skills to improve your ball striking but it’s not the focus.  We will train you to coach yourself and once our players understand what is happening with their ball flight with accurate data from our launch monitor, your brain will help to self organize your body to improve that skill.

Why get golf coaching?

Like any sport, game or hobby, there needs to be a certain amount of proficiency to enjoy the activity.  Sometimes through hard knocks or relentless practice we are able to get to place where we are proficient and thus we get the enjoyment we seek.  Another alternative would be to seek out certified coaching where we speed up your skill development through proper technique and you get better proficiency and even more enjoyment out of the sport.

What is a growth mindset?

It’s a desire for continuous improvement in what ever we do to get the best results.  It’s never ending, which is why golf is so intriguing. No matter what you score, you can probably say to yourself – what if and what could I do better?   That’s why skill development is so important to having more fun on the golf course.

Why would I do golf coaching in the off-season?

Unfortunately, skill development takes time and what better time than the off season!  If we start now, when the courses do open, you’ll be ready to go.  Making in season changes can be quite frustrating and we suggest off season training.  This is why we suggest two hour sessions.  The first hour is working on a portion of you game in a repetitive (block) practice format while the second hour is spent actually playing a course on the simulator like a playing lesson.  We find this to be a successful approach to taking your new game to the golf course.  The one hour sessions are tailored for summer sessions where outdoor practice facilities are available. Book your initial assessment today where we will assess your game and provide you with a development plan.

Golf is 4 Life: let’s enjoy it along the way!
