What are you doing this winter?

Updated: 15 hours ago

Some people like a break so they come back hungry in the spring. Others realize its the time to go to work. The best time to make changes in the year is in the winter when you're not playing. Why start next season they way last season went? Was it really that good? Changes to your game take time and golf practice in the winter is rewarding and fun! Come see us and we will assess your body swing connection through the TPI physical screen and provide an analysis of your swing/game. We will then develop a plan together specific to you to follow this winter.

As an example, lets dig in to what I did last winter to improve my club head speed and driver distance.

In August of 2023 my swing speed was 94 mph with a ball speed of 132 mph with a carry distance of 223 yards (see screen shot below with highlighted numbers):

You might think that's not too bad. However, with some time, effort and resources, I was able to increase my clubhead speed and improve my launch conditions. Below are my launch monitor numbers from April 2024. My club head speed went up by 7 mph, my launch angle went up and spin came down resulting in my carry distance increasing by 46 yards! That's a least a couple of clubs shorter on your next shot!

So how did I do all of that?

Technical Swing Changes

I worked with Lucas on my delivery to maximize speed, consistency and contact. Not only did my speed go up but my dispersion got better on the course. Win - win! I have heard many times if I try to swing fast my ball goes everywhere. Its your swing technique that's holding you back.

Fitness specific for golf

I use a mobile app that offers golf-specific exercises. It features programs designed to enhance strength, power, and flexibility for golfers. After years of gym workouts with a trainer emphasizing strength training, I've switched to this new regimen. It concentrates on power and speed, aiming to increase my club head speed, and I've noticed a significant improvement in how I feel!

Rypstick Speed Training

The Rypstick Golf speed stick and program was also part of my regimen. This program has you perform various speed stick drills which wake up your fast twitch muscles and gain you club head speed. Its super easy to use this tool at home and it does work! Use our discount code GOLF4LIFE and receive a 10% discount.

Equipment Launch Optimization

Depending on where you are with your clubs specifically your driver, the additional swing speed may result in different head and shaft combo. I did change my driver head to a TSR 2 and this increased my launch angle and lowered spin which further aided my gain in club head speed. If your driver is older than 5 years and you have never been fit than an equipment change will most likely be required - regardless of speed training.

Lets get to work this winter!
